Hussain Sagar Lake

Introduction
The Hussain Sagar Lake was built in the 16th century to show appreciation Hussain Shah by Ibrahim Quli Qutub Shah. This gesture helped Hussain Shah to recover from a long illness. This beautiful artificial lake links the two cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

Built in 1562 during the reign of Ibrahim Qutub Shah, the Hussain Sagar Lake is built across the tributary of River Musi. The road around the lake is embellished with lawns and statues of significant personalities. The 33 statues lining the road add a special charm to the place.

The white arch entrance is imposing and offers a regal approach to the beautiful artificial lake in Hyderabad. The roof of the arch close to the pillars holds the replicas of two massive lions. The tapered and decorated dome is intricately carved with globular designs. The designs on the dome replicate those done in Hindu temples.

In the middle of the Hussain Sagar Lake is the gigantic statue of Lord Buddha. It is 16 meters tall and made of white granite stone. The 350 ton statue stands out in the middle of the waters of the lake. The statue is intricately sculptured.

Popularly known as Tank Bund, the Hussain Sagar Lake has two sailing clubs on both sides. Known as the Secunderabad Boat Club, the sailing club offers facilities like yachting and the Annual Regatta attracts people from different parts of the country.
