Introduction to Nelapattu Bird Sanctuary :
Located about 50 kilometers from the Nellore district of Chennai, the Nelapattu Bird Sanctuary is one of the most popular bird sanctuaries in India which is accessible by rail, road and air. Popularly known as one of the largest habitats for pelicans in Southeast Asia, the Nelapattu Bird Sanctuary is home to many other native as well as migratory birds.
Nelapattu Bird Sanctuary is the breeding ground of many species that are now considered endangered. Some of the commonly found species of the Nelapattu Bird Sanctuary, Andhra Pradesh are Spotted Belied Pelican, Spoon Bill, White Ibis, Night Heron, Open Billed Stork, Painted Stork, Little Cormorant and Spoon Bill.

Some of the readily seen birds of the Nelapattu Bird Sanctuary are Babblers, Pelicans, Flamingos, Open Billed Stork, Coot, Night Heron and Waders. Apart from housing some of the rarest species of the avian population, the Nelapattu Bird Sanctuary is home to many mammals like jackals, slender loris and reptiles like monitor lizard, tortoises and snakes.
