Eturnagaram Sanctuary

Introduction :
About 55 kilometers from Warangal, Eturnagaram Sanctuary is a unique wildlife reserve which covers an area of about 812 square kilometers. Located on the Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra border, the Eturnagaram Sanctuary is one of the oldest and most popular wildlife sanctuaries of Andhra Pradesh. Established in 1952, the Eturnagaram Sanctuary was set with an aim to save the rich vegetation and bio-diversity of the region.

The undulating topography includes steep slopes, hills, streams and springs. This picturesque location forms a convenient and comfortable natural habitat for different species of animals. The dry deciduous forests and the tropical trees like teak, bamboo and madhuca offer shade and food for the animals.

Eturnagaram Wildlife Sanctuary
Some the wildlife inhabiting the Eturnagaram Sanctuary, Andhra Pradesh is tiger, leopard, panther, chausingha, wolf and wild dogs. Some endangered species of the region are black buck, nilgai, four horned antelope, chinkara, spotted deer, sambar and giant squirrels.

The reptile population at Eturnagaram Sanctuary includes crocodiles, python, cobra, kraite and star.

The ideal time to visit the Eturnagaram Sanctuary is between October and April as during this time of the year the weather is pleasant and the animals are seen in their natural habitat easily.

Some of the other attractions of the region are the Thousand Pillar Temple, the Warangal Fort, Jain Temple, Ramappa Temple and the Pakhal Wildlife Sanctuary.
