It ranks among the largest urban settlements in India and has a population of 4.5 million. The city is located by the banks of the River Sabarmati and is the administrative center of the Ahmedabad district. Ahmadabad is also known as the Amdavad district.

Ahmadabad in Gujarat was established in the year 1411 by Sultan Ahmed Shah as the capital of the Sultanate of Gujarat. The city was expanded and modernized during the British rule and was made a booming center of the textile industry. It was popularly known as 'the Manchester of the East."

The climate of Ahmadabad is mostly pleasant. The summer months are hot and warm while the winters are cold. Dry weather mostly prevails all over the year. The ideal time to come to the city is between the months of October and March when the weather condition is excellent with very little rainfall.
