Solachi kadi Solachi kadi is a well known western specialty. It is a fast to cook snack, as well as a popular traditional sweet dish.

Ingredients for Solachi kadi:

  • Coconut Milk-1 can
  • Green Chillies-2
  • Garlic flakes-5
  • Kokam or Sola-5 flakes
  • Coriander leaves- a handful
  • Salt to Taste
Recipe for Solachi kadi:
  • First dissolve Kokam flakes in about 4-5 tablespoons of water in a vessel. At the end of this the water will become deep pink in color.
  • Grind the coconut into a paste with the garlic flakes, a chili and a few kokam fruits.
  • Put all the other ingredients in the mixer, and crush. You can add some water to make a smooth batter. Grind for 2-3 minutes, so that all the ingredients are mixed well.
  • When the paste is smooth, extract the coconut milk.
  • Now, add the coconut milk to the extract of Kokam and sieve the liquid.
  • Next, add the coconut milk to the kokam water in a pan and heat to thicken.
  • Add the finely-chopped chilli and salt to taste. Stir slowly so that the liquid does not boil. Also see that no lumps are formed.
  • Heat gently for about five minutes then transfer the mixture to a bowl and allow it to cool in a dry place.
Serving suggestion: Sprinkle some coriander leaves on the top and refrigerate for a couple of hours. This lends it a nice smell. Solachi kadi is usually served with fried fish and rice.
