Elephant FestivalElephant Festival is one of the most important festivals of India that is celebrated in the state of Rajasthan, particularly in Jaipur. It is held annually and gathers large number of travelers from all over the country. Lots of elephants are brought during the festival, which are groomed to perfection, and are adorned with beautiful jewelries. The striking gait of the elephants enthralls the audience. The Elephant Festival in Jaipur take place in the month of March every year on the day of Holi.

Elephant Festival is a one day festival that involves the elephants to take part in various activities. You will definitely enjoy the elephant procession, races, the regal game of polo and their participation in the spring festival of colors. The day is entirely dedicated to the elephants.

During the Elephant festival, the violent elephants fight on the huge grounds or polo fields. This polo ground in Jaipur is the ground where the Elephant festival is arranged. On the day of the festival of colors, Holi, the polo ground Chaugan thrives with life. The field comes alive with elephants, musicians, dancers and onlookers from various parts of the world.

The Elephant Festival starts with the grand procession of the elephants, which are beautifully decorated and painted with bright hues. The embroidered velvets and dazzling ornaments make the elephants look amazingly beautiful. The whole area reverberates with the echoing sound of the bankiya. Apart from the elephants, lancers on horses, camels, cannons, chariots and palanquins also take part in the festival. Beauty contests of the elephants are also arranged and the largest of them wins the contest. Most of the elephants that take part in the Elephant festival are females.

The game of polo is another major attraction of the festival. The teams are beautifully dressed up in saffron and red turbans, who play polo from the elephants back. The tourists are then invited to mount the animals and sprinkle colors on each other.

Various other activities are also arranged during this Elephant festival. People play tug of war with the elephants to try out their strength. Various exhibitions are also arranged related to elephants and their life. Cultural programs and Dhaph and Gair dance programs are also arranged to make the Elephant festival all the more memorable and enjoyable.
