Huge celebrations take place during the Ther Thiruvizhah festival. The main purpose of the festival is to allow people to have a darshan or a holy sight of the goddess. The chariot is made with wood and is decorated with traditional jewels and is packed in a garage in front of the temple. Prior to the main festival, the chariot is dusted and a fresh paint is applied on it. The wheels are also greased. A makeshift structure of a temple is built on the chariot. The temple is decorated with trees, flowers; mango leaves, maize stalk, other fruits and vegetables, and embroidered silk cloth. Beautiful carvings are made on the chariot. The designs correspond to the carvings on the temple.
To celebrate the Ther Thiruvizhah (Chariot Festival), people irrespective of age, castes and creeds take part in the chariot procession. People wear new clothes and women adorn themselves with traditional jewelry. To mark the festival, numerous shops offer discounts and rebates on various types of items.
