Covering an area of 1288 square kilometers, it was formerly known as the Hailey National Park and was later renamed as the Jim Corbett National Park in honor of famous hunter and naturalist Jim Corbett. It ranks among the oldest national parks in India and draws hundreds of tourists and nature lovers from various parts of the world.

The Corbett National Park in Uttarakhand is amidst on the foothills of the lower Himalayas in the Nainital district in the state of Uttarakhand. It is an ideal habitat for a wide variety of flora and fauna. The main objective of the wildlife reserve is the Project Tiger to save the Royal Bengal Tiger.

The Corbett National Park consists of a vegetation of sal and evergreen trees. The national park consists of diverse terrain such as gentle and rugged, plain and mountainous, wet and dry, forests and grasslands. There is around 488 species of trees and vegetation while 585 species of fauna are found here. Prominent animal species include Himalayan Palm Civet, Leopards, Asiatic Elephants, Fishing Cats, Indian Gray Mongoose, Porcupine, Common Otter, and Black naped Hare. The rivers and lakes are habitat for Gharials and Indian crocodiles.
