It is because of the diverse range of flora and faunas available in this forest, it has been recognized as the Wildlife Sanctuary in 1960. Set amidst the natural beauty, Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary, Rajasthan is a great attraction for those who love nature and adventure.

Over the years, Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary has been planned as a major ecotourism site. This long and narrow wildlife sanctuary is spread on a high plateau and stretches for more than 19 kilometers in length and 5 to 8 kilometers in breadth. The landscape of the sanctuary is typical of the region. The rocky landscape is made up of igneous rocks, which are formed because of the wind and water effect. There are large holes and cracks formed in the rocks. This landscape feature is typical of the Aravali region.

Rich bio diversity can be noticed at the Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary, Rajasthan. Here, you can find xenomorphic subtropical thorn forest and subtropical evergreen forest as well. The floras are all available by the water courses and higher altitude valleys. At the Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary, you can find 112 plant families with 449 genera and 820 species. Of all the different plant species, there are 663 species of dicots and 157 species of monocots. You can also find diverse range of orchids in this wildlife sanctuary. Algae and bryophytes are commonly found within this sanctuary. The wild roses are the major attraction of the Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary.

The South- West region of Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary, Rajasthan is affluent in bamboo forests. You can find several medicinal plants including 28 species of climbers, 89 species of shrubs, 81 species of tree and 17 species of tuberous plants in the sanctuary.

Apart from the wide range of floras, you can find various threatened and endangered species of faunas. Some of the major wild animals, which are commonly found in this sanctuary are lion, tiger, panther, small Indian civet, wolf, jungle cat, sloth bear, Indian hyaena, jackal, fox, sambhar, wild boar, pangolin, common langoor, common mongoose, Indian hare, porcupine and hedgehog.
