Weekend getaways from Dharamsala

Dharamshala welcomes you with scenic natural surroundings and an atmosphere that leaves you rejuvenated. Mountainous surroundings and gushing streams contrast with serene lakes, making for a picture perfect vacation. On visiting this northern destination you will notice the sun tanned Lamas approaching you and welcoming you to the "Second Tibet". Aptly called the land of Tibetans, you will find them living in harmony with the local Indians. Don't miss out on the weekend getaways from Dharamshala. Check out Bhagsu village, Naddi Gaon, Triund and Jogindernagar.

Start with the small hamlet of Dharamkot on your way past Mcleod Ganj. This small settlement houses a mountaineering institute that is well worth a visit. You move on further and climb uphill to Naddi Gaon which offers an excellent view of the Dhauladhar range.

The plateau of Triund at 2827 meters with trails leading to the Chamba Valley is another good choice to put up.The few government lodges that are situated here should be booked from beforehand from Dharamshala.

From there take the meandering road to Bhagsu village- a quaint little settlement by a mountain stream. You can pass by Jogindernagar where there is a Hydro power plant. An hour break at this place will revive you of your fatigue and you will be ready to move ahead.

You can also visit places like Mandi, Kangra, Jogindernagar, Andretta, Palampur and Baijnath. An option is to begin your journey at the tiny hamlet at Dharamkot. En-route you can drop in at Mcleodganj to get a feel of the place. Moving further on, trek through Naddi Gaon where you will be greeted by sweeping views of the Dhauladhar Range.

Another weekend getaway from Dharamshala is Triund, from where you can make your way to the Chamba Valley. You can even stay at the valley or plan a picnic at the spot. There are government lodges that provide accommodation.

From Chamba Valley, the next destination is Bhagsu village, which is located around a mountain stream. From here, you can travel to Jogindernagar, which has a hydro power plant. This power plant is one of the most well known attractions in the state and a must-visit.

Palampur is one of the best weekend getaways from Dharamshala. It is a hill station that is known for its magnificent tea plantations. The manicured tea gardens are a treat to the senses. Just 40 kilometers from Dharamshala, Palampur is surrounded by snow capped mountains, fruit orchards, gorges and passes that stretch endlessly.
