Gandhi Jayanti is one of the most important days in the India travel calendar as it celebrates the "birth anniversary of the father of the nation", Mahatma Gandhi. The great man was born on October 2. 1869. His contributions towards freedom struggle of India are immense. Mahatma Gandhi was also known for his unique technique of "Satyagraha". Gandhiji also made useful contribution in the fight against superstitions like untouchability and other notions. The whole of the country takes this opportunity to pay their respect to the great leader on the day of Gandhi Jayanti.

Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated through out the country. The President and the Prime Minister of the country along with other eminent political leaders visit the Raj Ghat to pay their homage to the leader. The day is also regarded as a national holiday.
