Army Day


Indian Army Day is another event in the country to honor the valiant soldiers protecting our nation. Observed on January 15 every year, the Army Day recognizes the transfer of power from British commander to the first commander-in-chief of the independent nation. British commander Sir Francis Bitcher handed over the authority of the army to KM Cariappa in 1949. It is an historic day for the country in line with Independence and Republic Day of India.

About Army Day

On January 15, 2011 India will celebrate its 63rd year of Army Day marked with military parades, procession, aerobatics, and salute to the martyrs. Honoring the valiant soldiers who fought for the country's democratic set up is the integral part of the Army day in India. The day reflects the true spirit of the Indian military unit "fight to win".

Observing Army Day

Indian Army Day celebrations take place in New Delhi and presided over by the Commander-in-Chief every year. If you have plans to travel India, be at the Amar Jawan Jyoti at the India Gate, New Delhi as homage is paid to the martyrs. Followed by parades, garlanding, and bike shows. The shows on bikes and other vehicles is an example of the achievements of the Indian Army. Gallantry awards and medals for chivalry are presented to the jawans.
