Shabbe Mirag is an auspicious day for the Muslim Community. It is also known as the 'night of Ascent'. According to the belief, it represents the night when Holy Prophet of Islam was transported to heaven. The belief also says that the journey took him closest to God Amlighty, which is beyond the reach of ordinary human being. The day is celebrated throughout India, especially in places which has a high Muslim population.
The celebration of Shabbe Mirag involves a number of rituals to be performed. Mosques throughout the country are decorated with lighting, oil lamps and candles. Worshippers taking part in this festival gather at the mosques and they sing hymns in praise of Holy Prophet. Organizing public meetings and distributing sweets are also integral part of the celebration of Shabbe Mirag. The Muslims also engage themselves in distributing food among the poor people.
