Jhansi was a stronghold of the Chandela Kings. It rose to prominence in the 17th century under the rule of Raja Bir Singh Deo. It earns much of its claim to fame from the activities of Rani Laxmi Bai who led her forces against the British in 1857 single handedly without much back up.

Description of Ayurved Jhansi Mahotsava:
The annual five day occasion is celebrated with much pomp and enthusiasm in Jhansi. Ayurvedic medicines and herbs are showcased along with display of art and handicraft items. It is followed by song, dance and poetry reading.
The state government is promoting this fair with much gusto in zeal to popularize Ayurvedic products. This festival is alternately termed in Uttar Pradesh as week long healing holiday.
