Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary
Goa is more popular because of its beaches
and sea sides. But another distinct element in this dynamic land is its wildlife
and Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary, Goa is just an example of it. It is situated in
Canacona Taluka, on the South of Goa. It lies at about 2km from Poinguinim, which
is 10km away from Chaudi on the NH17.
Communicating to the Cotigao wildlife sanctuary, goa is thus not a major problem. Any of the buses running South on NH17 to Karwar via Chaudi takes you within 2km of the sanctuary. For the more adventurous lot, a written permission is required for an overnight stay at the forest. You can either stay in the watch tower or even at a small guest house of the forest department.
The Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary, Goa was established in 1969 to protect a remote and vulnerable area of forest lining the Goa Karnataka border. It's a must watch site at Goa. Housing multi-layered forest with rare plants and trees that umbrellas the sunlight, it is earth in its primitive form.
Visitors
stand a good possibility of spotting different species of monkeys, wild Boar and
the odd Guar. The best time to visit the sanctuary is between October and March.
