The city of Gandhinagar, in Gujarat has in the past had an inevitable linkage with the history of Indian struggle for independence. Much of it occurred due to the towering influence of Mahatma Gandhi, on the place. The city has retained such an influence even today. One can easily come across such influences by walking down the streets and Bazaars in Gandhinagar.
Being situated in the Western Ghats, the land of Gandhinagar is washed by the waters of the Sabarmati River. Hence the soil is rendered absolute fertility with the silt deposited on the banks. Moreover Gandhinagar is also located in the Deccan Plateau with black soil which is perfectly suited for the cultivation of Cotton.
As a result, Gandhinagar flourishes in the production of cotton and other fibers that are derivatives of it. Hence the Bazaars in Gandhinagar, India are known to supply all articles made from cotton to all parts of the country. A substantial portion of the total production is also exported to foreign lands.
