Maharana Pratap SagarLocated in Kangra district Maharana Pratap Dam is a man made reservoir. It is also known as Pong Dam Reservoir. In order to pay homage to Maharana Pratap Singh this Dam has been constructed during 1572-1597; this dam was made into a reservoir for usages during hot summer months when the thirsty animals comes here for a gulp of fresh water.

Located beside the Siwalik Ranges, this is an important tourist destination. People from across the country visit here in order to witness the old dam created during the Rajput rule. The water flowing down the rugged hilly terrain was stored by constructing a dam.

Wild Life at Maharana Pratap Sagar:

Maharana Pratap Sagar is located at 32 degree north latitude and 76 degree east latitude. It holds as many as 220 species of birds and was declared as a Bird Sanctuary during 1983. Few of the important varieties of birds found here are Gulls, Northern Pintail, Black Stork, Goose, Ducks and Water Fowl.

The land boasts its widest collection of rare and exquisite animals like Barking Bear, Sambar, Wild Boars and Leopards. You can also find some migratory birds at Maharana Pratap Sagar Reservoir during cold months. The rainfall during Monsoon is very heavy and non stop precipitation from July to September replenishes the water lost by summer evaporation.
