Jamshedpur was originally known as Sakchi. It was in 1919 that Lord Chelmsford named the city Jamshedpur, in honor of its founder, Jamshedji Nusserwanji Tata, whose birthday is still celebrated as Founder's Day (on 3rd March). J. N.
