City Info :
About 25 km from Kanpur is the village of Bithoor. Legend has it that Sita, the wife of Lord Rama the hero of Ramayana, came to live here at the ashram of the sage poet Valmiki, after being expelled by her husband from Ayodhya. It was here that Sita gave birth to the twins Lav and Kush. Bithoor is also the site of the fort to which Nana Sahib escaped during the Sepoy Mutiny following the British retaking of Kanpur.
