Mysore is located in the southern Indian state of Karnataka. The city lies at a distance of 140 kms from the state capital Bangalore. Mysore, famous as the 'City of Palaces' is the second biggest city in the state of Karnataka. Mysore, the 'Sandalwood City', is always enwrapped with the lasting aromas of sandalwood. Once the erstwhile capital of the ancient rulers of Mysore, the city houses a number of places of historic significance. There are several marvelous temples, which are known for their brilliant designs and elaborate carvings all over the walls, pillars and towers. The city till date retains an atmosphere of the old world in its architectural temples and palaces. Mysore is one of the chief centres of incense production in the country. The incense stick factories are spread all over the town. Besides, Mysore is also a centre of craft. The shops of the town sell an interesting assortment of sandalwood, rosewood, teak carving etc. Some of the major tourist attractions of the city are: The Mysore Palace, Jagan Mohan Art Gallery, Mysore Arts and Crafts Emporium, Rail Museum, Temples and Mysore Zoo.
