The city of Indore is situated on the banks of the River Saraswati and Kham, the tributaries of River Shipra. Built by Rani Ahilyabai Holkar, it is a city endowed with natural beauty and pleasant climatic conditions. Indore is an important industrial city often called Mini-Mumbai. Historical monuments and temples in Indore are abundant. Reminiscent of the Holkar heritage there are monuments exhibiting the architectural splendor of the erstwhile rulers. Many of these magnificent monuments of Indore have been converted into Heritage hotels. Heritage Hotels in Indore offers excellent accommodation and service.

The fun in touring India is the vast historical and ancient culture it offers. The princely stories attached to each monument speak volumes of the rich heritage the land encompasses. Walking through the city of Indore you will come across spectacular historical edifices built by the Holkars. Among all, the best is the Rajwada or the Old Palace, a seven storey magnificent building built of stone and wood amalgamating Mughal, Maratha and French architecture.

Located in the throng of the Khajuri Bazaar the old palace is a beautiful 200-year-old monument reflecting the glorious days of the Holkar rule. The initial three stories of the building is made of stone while the rest are made of wood making it vulnerable to fire. Much of the monument is in ruins since it was burnt down thrice in the past. Its spectacular faade still attracts tourists. Other places of interest are Kanch Mandir, Indore Museum, Lal Bagh Palace, Gandhi Hall or Town hall, Cenotaph Bagh, Bada Ganpati temple, The Gita Bhavan, The Annapurna Temple, Bijasen Tekri and Gomtagiri Jain Temples.
