The Mahabodhi Temple complex, located about 96 kilometers from Patna, the state capital contains the Mahabodhi Temple with the diamond throne (called the Vajrasana) and the holy Bodhi tree under which Lord Buddha is said to have attained Enlightenment. This tree was originally a sapling of the Sri Maha Bodhi tree in Sri Lanka, which in turn was grown from a sapling of the original Bodhi tree at Bodh Gaya.
