The Kangra Toy Train links Pathankot and Joginder Nagar. The trip through the tunnels and meandering hills and valleys is indeed invigorating to the travelers. Construction on the line started in 1926, and the 163 km long route was opened three years later.
The route allows the visitors to explore the splendid natural surroundings. As you travel you will be able to discover the innumerable facets of history, culture and art associated with the past. As the train enters the foothills you will get a glimpse of the superb Kangra valley. Soon the Dhauladhar becomes prominent. You will then pass through the Daulatpur tunnel and the ruins of the Kangra fort.
The varying landscape is indeed commendable and you will be awe struck by the natural beauty and the glimmers of the white peaks. As you move along you will witness the tea gardens of the Palampur region. As the route between Baijnath and Joginder Nagar is the steepest the train moves at a slow pace till it reaches the highest point at Ahju. The popular para-gliding and hang-gliding site are located here. The White Mountains gradually fades away as the train enters Joginder Nagar.
