Introduction :
The Dudhwa National Park boasts of a richly diverse wildlife population along with an equally interesting and diverse topography- from mosaic grasslands and dense sal forests to swampy marshes, Dudhwa is the other Name for verisimilitude. The northern edge of the Park lies along the Indo-Nepal border, and the River Suheli marks its southern boundary. The Wildlife in Dudhwa is varied, but the icing on the cake as in most national parks in India, is the Royal Bengal Tiger. Dudhwa is said to have 101 tigers and 4 leopoards.

Wildlife in Dudhwa
The wildlife in Dudhwa comprises of Tigers, Leopards, Hispid Hares, Swamp Deer (Barasingha) and Rhinos thrive amidst the vegetation. There are at least 37 species of mammals and 16 species of reptiles in the park. The park used to be a natural habitat of rhinoceroses 150 years ago. That is why five rhinos from Assam were relocated to the park. But of these, two of the females died due to the strain of transportation. These were later replaced in 1985 by four more females from Nepal.

The vegetation in Dudhwa National Park comprises of sal forests, marshes and grasslands which harbour a wide variety of wildlife. The Park is famous for the reintroduced one horned rhino and swamp deer (barasingha). Dudhwa is also distinguished for having the largest surviving population of this endangered species, their presence rendered more spectacular by the propensity for segregation of the antlered males. Being a marshland bird life in Dudhwa is prolific. It provides a natural habitat for the winter migratory birds. An ideal paradise for birders to see the Lesser Bengal Florican and Swamp Partridge - both these species are on the red alert list. Most of the migratory birds in Dudhwa are aquatic in nature and they congregate around its lakes, mostly the Banke Tal.

How to Reach Dudhwa:

By Air :- the nearest and most convenient airport is at Lucknow. Indian Airlines and other private airlines operate flights between Lucknow, Mumbai, Delhi and other major cities.

By Rail :- The nearest railway stations are Dudhwa (4 km), Palia (10 km) and Mailani (37 km). However the most convenient way would be to travel to Lucknow by air or rail and hit the road or take a train to any of the nearer stations from there.

By Road :- The State Roadways buses and private bus services link Palia to Lakhimpur Kheri, Shahjahanpur, Bareilly and Delhi. Regular buses are frequently available between Palia and Dudhwa. However, the most convenient way to travel to the park, if you are an inbound tourist, is to make your way to Lucknow, either by air or by rail and take a bus or train to Dudhwa, which is just 4 km from the entry gate of the park.
