Introduction

Towering sals, cobalt blue pool, starry white jasmine growing rampant and wild, is what meets your eyes once you comes in the vicinity of Eravikulam Wildlife forest. The undulating topography and the moist deciduous forest of Eravikulam is situated in the high ranges of Kannan Devan Hills of the South Western Ghats.

The park spreads over 97 sq kilometers of verdant green. It consists of mostly high altitude grasslands with intermittent shoals.

The highest peak is the Anamudi hills. Eravikulam Park mainly consists of three major kinds of vegetation- grassland, shrubland and wild forest.

Fauna in Eravikulam is of wide variety. The park houses the largest surviving population of Nilgiri Tahrs. The fully grown male version is known as the saddle back. The park acts as the mating ground of these animals and a recent survey shows a significant rise in the population of these creatures. Other animals that you could possibly come across here are Nilgiri martens, small clawed otter, mongoose, squirrel etc.
Elephants also make seasonal visits in this park.

120 species of birds have also been recorded in this Park.

This park can be reached both from Kochi and Coimbatore. The nearest town is Munnar and the nearest railway station is in Aluva Kerala.
