The avifauna at the Kaziranga National Park is enviably huge in variety. Commonly seen are the Oriental Honey Buzzard, Black-Shouldered Kite, Black Kite, Brahminy Kite, Pallas's Fishing Eagle, White Tailed Eagle, Grey-Headed Fishing Eagle, Himalayan Griffon, etc. during winters huge numbers of migratory birds descend on the parks lakes and marshy areas including Greylag Geese, Bar-Headed Geese, Ruddy Shelduck, Gadwall, Falcated Duck, Red-Crested Pochard and Northern Shoveller.
How to Reach Kaziranga:
By Air :- The nearest airport to Kaziranga is situated at Guwahati, which is 217-km away from the park. The other airport is located at Jorhat, 97-km from Kaziranga.
By Rail :- The nearest railhead is at Furkating, situated 75-km away from Kaziranga National Park.
By Road :- ASTC buses and private buses to Guwahati, Tezpur and Upper Assam are available from the main gate of the park at Kohora.
Best Time to Visit Kaziranga:
The best time to watch the fauna at Kaziranga is from mid-November to early April. During the monsoons, the Brahmaputra River floods the low grasslands and marshes causing animals to migrate from one area to another within the Park.
