the Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh is the Bandhavgarh National Park. Once a royal hunting preserve, this park today boasts of a sizeable number of tigers along with other animals like the stripped hyena, sloth bear, jungle cat and gaur. The Bandhavgarh Park is also home to around 250 species of local and migratory birds.

Kanha National Park
The Kanha National Park is located in the Mandla district of Madhya Pradesh and is one of the first reserves to have come under the Project Tiger scheme. Made up of a series of plateaus, Kanha is spread over an area of 1940 sq km. The animal population at the Kanha National Park includes the tiger, sloth bear, mouse deer, barasingha and gaur. Meanwhile, the bird population at Kanha includes the crested eagle hawk, golden oriole, racquet tailed drongo and the crimson-breasted barber.

Panna National Park
Established in 1981, the Panna National Park is located some 57 km from Khajuraho. It was declared a Project Tiger reserve in 1994 and is home to a sizeable population of tigers today. The park is also home to leopards, hyenas, wolves, chitals, chowsinghas and sloth bears. Meanwhile, the bird population at the Panna National Park includes the white-necked stork, blossom headed parakeet, bareheaded goose and king vulture.
