One of the well-known National Parks in India - Kishtwar High Altitude National Park, Jammu and Kashmir was established in the year 1981, with the chief aim of protecting snow leopards. Located about 248 km from Jammu, Kishtwar National Park is sprawled over an area of about 400 sq. km. The vegetation at the park is not very dense as is in most cold regions. The flora mainly comprises coniferous, alpine, meadows and scrub forests. The prominent trees found include Pinus gerardiana, Cedrus deodara, Quercus spp., Pinus wallichiana, Juglans regia, Ulmus spp, etc.
