Introduction

A popular national park in Kerala, Silent Valley is located in the Palakkad District of Kerala, on the Western Ghats. Silent Valley National Park is well known for its abundance of varied wildlife, rich flora and fauna. Established as a National Park in 1980, Silent Valley eventually became part of the core area of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve.

The national park is the habitat of many different kinds of animals like the Great Indian Hornbill, Ceylon Frog Moth, Lion-tailed Macaque and Nilgiri Laughing Thrush.

Climate in Silent Valley National Park

The climate of Silent Valley National Park is predominated by heavy rainfall especially in the high altitude region. The average rainfall experienced by the region ranges between 2800 and 3400 mm. Silent Valley National Park experiences rainfall between June and December due to the southwest monsoon winds. April and May are the summer months when the maximum temperature rises to 39 degree Celsius while January and February are the winter months when the temperature is about 20 degree Celsius.
