Introduction

Silent Valley National Park located in the Palakkad district of Kerala is a popular wildlife reserve of India. The abundant and varied wildlife in the national park include tigers, lion-tailed macaques, elephants and many endangered species.

The original name of Silent Valley was Sairandhrivanam which means the forest in the valley. In the year 1888, Silent Valley was declared a reserved land under the government of Kerala.

Buses can go up to Mukkali which is about 23 kilometers away. The rest of the journey to Silent Valley National Park has to be covered by foot or by hiring a van or jeep.

Trekking up to the park is often carried out by trekkers but he terrain is rough and can be dangerous.
