Introduction to Wan Sanctuary :
Chilkahrada Wild Life Sanctuary, nicknamed the Wan Sanctuary at Amaravati in Maharashtra has been named after Keechaka, the infamous villain in the Mahabharata, is a great tourist attraction. For the nature lovers, this place is a veritable heaven on earth. The main attraction here is the ample reserve of fauna like Sloth Bear, Sambhar, Panther and Wild Boar. Wild Dogs are also present here; a region of dales, with majestic trees raising their heads to bid welcome to a discerning traveler. The enveloping velvet mist also encompasses the entire landscape with a strange homeliness, making it an innate resting ground for the wild animals.

Mythical Connection of Wan Sanctuary
Amaravati region in Vidharbha region has a glorious mythical connection. According to the legend, Wan Sanctuary at Amaravati located 1, 118 meters, is the point where the grand combatants Bheema and Keechaka fought against each other, while the former over threw the latter deep into the valley. From the villain Keechaka, the name of this valley Keechakahrada has been derived; Chilkahrada is the distortion of that name.
