  • The Virupasha Temple The temple of Virupaksha houses Shiva, the guardian deity of the Vijayanagara Kings. A 50 m tall, elaborately carved gateway marks the entry of the temple. The shrine itself, still in use, contains the worship of nearly five centuries of devotees.

  • The Narasimha, The Shivalinga & The Ganesha Monoliths The gigantic 8 - 9 m tall Narasimha image lies on the South of the Hemakuta group of temples. The Narasimha is a seated four armed figure under a canopy of a seven hooded snake. A gigantic Shivalinga is situated next to the Narashimha. It is 3m high and stands permanently in water. The two Ganesha images are on the slopes of the Hemakuta hill. The Sasivikalu Ganesha is 2.4m tall. The Kadalai Kalu Ganesha is 4.5 m high.

  • The Vithal Temple The Vithala temple lies on the southern bank of the Tungabhadra River and is generally considered the most splendid of the religious monuments at Hampi near Hospet. The Vithala temple also contains a magnificent stone chariot that houses the famous eagle in the Puranas, Garuda.

  • The Lotus Mahal The most photogenic non religious building in Hampi near Hospet is the Lotus Mahal. This graceful two-storied pavilion is located in 'Zenana' enclosure. The palace is a delightful synthesis of the Hindu and Islamic styles of architecture very different from the awesome grandeur of Hampi's temples.

  • The Elephant Stables The Elephant Stables are an exquisite example of the Indo-Saracenic Architecture at Hampi. There is a row of Eleven Chambers which was home to these impressive animals, in the ancient times.
