If you are the adventurous type waiting for the moment to spot the sambhar looking for its prey then you should be packing your rucksack to Kabini Wildlife Sanctuary. Located at Karapur near Nagarahole Wildlife National Park, it houses some of the rare species of animals and birds. Rated as one of the five best wildlife sanctuaries of India in British magazine Tatlers, Kabini’s attraction is the convergence of wildlife and birds on the banks of the river Kabini.
Originally belonging to the Maharajas of Mysore, Kabini Wildlife Sanctuary is very close to Nagarhole National Park. On your safari through the sanctuary you may be lucky to spot elephants, monkeys, bison, sloth bear and panthers. Crocodile, Golden backed Woodpecker, Osprey and the White Necked Stork are also found in numbers here.
