Traveling to Ranganthittu for a spate of bird watching can be an exhilarating experience. Away from the busy schedule and tensions of fast life in cities it is rewarding to spend a day amidst nature gazing at its spectacular gifts. Dressed in casuals and good shoes with powerful binoculars and a camera in hand, set for the Ranganthittu Bird Santuary that is laden with rare avian species. Close to Mysore city and neighbor to the Vrindavan gardens, Ranganthittu is situated on the banks of the Kaveri River. The six isolated islets become the favorite spot for any migratory birds that flock to this sanctuary. During monsoon increase in aquatic insect also attracts birds in numbers.
Established in 1940 by noted ornithologist Dr. Salim Ali, the Ranganthittu Bird Sanctuary attracts nature lovers, bird watchers and wildlife enthusiasts.
