Apart from the captivating Alappuzha Beach, you can explore the fascinating Mullukal Temple that hosts an annual music festival, the Mannarasala Sree Nagaraja Temple, Krishnapuram Temple, Devi Temple, Chettikulangara Bhagavathy temple, Kottamkulangara Mahavishnu temple, St. Andrews Church and the Gajendra Miksham at Alappuzha. Also visit Kuttanad, called the rice bowl of Kerala because of its wealth of paddy crops, and the Champakulam Church , one of the oldest churches in Kerala, believed to be one of the seven established by St. Thomas.
A prime attraction of Alappuzha is the famous annual Nehru Trophy Boat Race held at Punnamada Kayal on the Second Saturday of every August. You can be in the midst of chirping birds of all colors at Pathira Manal , located at a little distance from Alappuzha. For some shopping, visit the local bazaars and shop for rugs and carpets woven of coconut fibers and excellent quality coir.
Climate
The climate of Alappuzha is generally temperate and humid and relatively more pleasant in the winter season. The best time to visit this district is between August–September and February–March.
How to reach
To reach Alappuzha, the nearest International Airports are at Kochi (85 km) and Thiruvananthapuram (150 km). Excellent road and rail network links the district to all major towns and cities in India. Alappuzha is also linked by boat service through the back waters to Quilon, Changanacherry, Kumarakom, Cochin, Kumarakom, Chengannor, etc.
