Frescoes Rajasthan

The princely state of Rajasthan has a long history of Rajputs, land acquisitions, battles won and fought, sprawling palaces, and rich mansions. The state has been often described by an onlooker as a dream carved in marble. The arid desert topography is in sharp contrast to the colorful life that is prevalent here. Each region in Rajasthan specializes in some thing or the other. If Pushkar is known for its camel fairs and Jaipur for its palaces, Chittorgarh is known for its forts and again Shekhawati region for its exquisite Frescoes.

Rajasthani Art is held in high esteem all throughout the world. Whether it is marble carvings, miniature paintings or frescoes it tells you of the high level of artistic sense that these craftsmen mastered. The art of Frescoes is prevalent in Rajasthan from a very long time. A leisurely walk through the Shekhawati region will show you the artistic acumen of the craftsmen of yore. The havelis in Shekhawati region are beautifully painted and frescoes abound here. The interiors, pillars, rooms, halls all has been designed with the most intricate of Frescoes. For coloration these craftsmen used vegetable dyes. Floral motifs and arabesque poses were the regular themes.

Another unique example of Frescoes in Rajasthan would definitely be the huge havelis in the Mandawa region. . They are a perfect blend of monumental frescoes with figures of elephants and horses and that of the British India. Vibrant colors are characteristic features of these Frescoes. Nawalgarh another region close to the Shekhawati area is also famous for its many painted havelis. Anandilal Poddar Haveli constructed in 1920 has an amazing collection of Fresco painting.

These paintings have been preserved and maintained in the many museums of Rajasthan. The state government upholds the culture and tradition of Rajasthan through the art, craft, paintings and other handiworks of the state.
