Republic Day

Introduction to the Republic Day
In the true spirit of nationalism, Republic Day is celebrated throughout India and the state of Rajasthan is no exception. It is what can truly be referred to as a National Festival. All Indians irrespective of their caste, creed and color participate in the Republic Day celebrations.

History of the Republic
India gained independence from British rule on 15th August but it became a sovereign socialist secular democratic republic on 26th August. This is one of the red letter days in Indian history when the Indian Constitution was accepted. Consequently it is celebrated as Republic Day throughout the country. The day has been declared a National Holiday.

Description of the Republic Day
On the eve of the republic day the President of the country addresses the nation. The following day, Republic Day celebrations are marked by a lot of parades not only in New Delhi, the country capital but also in the various states. In Rajasthan too a lot of celebrations take place. Many Indians sacrificed their lives not only to gain independence from foreign yoke but also to protect that independence. The celebrations begin remembering the sacrifices made by these valiant men. Medals are awarded to those from the armed forces who have displayed their valor in the battlefield by the state chief minister. In fact the civilians who have exhibited exemplary courage are also honored.

Even though the highlight of the Republic Day celebrations in the country is definitely the Parade along Rajpath, the celebrations in Rajasthan are also quite marked. In the schools of Rajasthan national flag is hoisted and children put up various performances. They remember the sacrifices made by our countrymen.

Time for celebrating the Republic Day

It is celebrated each year on the 26th of January.
