The beauty of this town was enhanced by Bappa Rawal, who was founder of the Sisodia clan of Rajputs. He had received Chittorgarh as a dowry from the princess of Solanki. Chittorgarh was under the rule of the Sisodia clan till the 16th century. During the invasion of Mughals, Chittrgarh became a principal city of the Mughals. According to history, Ala-ud-din Khilji had conquered this beautiful city from Rana Ratan Singh who was the husband of Padmini, regarded as Eastern Cleopatra. Originally constructed by Rana Kumbha, Chittor was conquered by the great Mughal emperor Akbar.
