Tour to Khangchendzonga, KalimpongKalimpong is situated at an altitude of 1250 m, in the state of West Bengal. It is 50 km from Darjeeling, 70 km from Siliguri and 84 km from Gangtok. Kalimpong was under the rule of the Sikkimese rulers till the 18th century after which it came under the control of Bhutan. The British took over Kalimpong in the 19th century and merged it with West Bengal.

Kalimpong is a beautiful place as a summer destination. There are several places of tourist attraction in Kalimpong. You may visit the Thongsa Gompa, popularly known as the Bhutanese Monastery. Founded in the year 1962, it is the oldest monastery in Kalimpong. Although the Gorkhas destroyed the original structure, the existing edifice was rebuilt on the same site. The Zong Dog Palri Fo-Brang Gompa, situated on the Durpin hill, is famous for the Tibetan wall paintings

The building also has a Religious Debating Society along with a school of Tibetan medicine. The Tharpa Choeling Monastery, founded in 1937, belongs to the Gelugpa or the Yellow Hat Sect of Tibetan Monastery. This Monastery has a collection of many old scriptures and literary works. The Pedong Monastery at a distance of 26 km from Kalimpong, is an old Buddhist monastery and was established in 1837. The spectacular view of the sunrise at the Lolay Gaon is worth watching. This place is 56 km from town and also offers a marvelous view of the Khangchendzonga.

While at Kalimpong, you can pay visit to Dr. Graham's Home, which is 4 km from the main town. Scottish missionary Dr. John Anderson Graham founded the mission school in 1900. The school was opened with a motive to educate children of the workers of the tea garden and poor laborers. A place called Lava is about 32 km from Kalimpong. It attracts a lot of tourists because of the superb view it offers of Rechi La and Jelep La passes.

To watch the process of breeding of the silk worms and production of high quality silk, you should visit the Sericulture Research Institute. The institute also has other various herbs and plants at the institute. The Nature Interpretation Center displays dioramas depicting the ill effects of Man's disregard for Nature. Kalimpong is very known for the production of flower and it alone contributes 80 percent to the total gladioli production in India.
