Bhopal, the capital city of Madhya Pradesh holds an amazing fusion of picturesque beauty and historic artifacts. Also famous as the ‘City of Lakes’, Bhopal has two stunning lakes namely; Upper Lake and Lower Lake. The two lakes are separated by an over bridge called Pul Pukhta or Lower Lake Bridge. Supplying water to almost 40% of the residents in Bhopal, these lakes play a vital role in serving the city.
The Upper Lake is famed as ‘Bada Talab’, built by Raja Bhoj in 11th century. The lake is spread over 36.1sq km and is surrounded by beautiful royal garden and Kamla Park. It is a perfect place to relax and enjoy various water sports like Kayaking, Canoeing, parasailing and water skiing. To the east of Upper Lake is the ‘Chota Talaab’, The Lower Lake which was constructed by Chote Khan in 1794.
The two urban water bodies together are called ‘Bhoj Wetland’. Apart from sightseeing, the lakes also offer ride on paddle boats, sail and motor boats. During the rides one can feel the cool breeze and watch the enchanting beauty of Bhopal. Moreover tourists from all parts of the world come here to relax and forget all their worries.
