The National Rail Museum, New Delhi was inaugurated on the 1st of February 1977. This museum is the focus of the Rail Heritage of India. If you are interested in the Railways, then a visit to this museum in New Delhi is a must.

The National Rail Museum is one-of-its-kind in Asia. The museum boasts of a huge collection of romance, nostalgia, fun, history, heritage, leisure and entertainment, all in the 11 acres of land that the museum occupies. The indoor gallery of the National Rail Museum displays photographs, coat of arms, exhibits, models, records and documents. The exhibit section in the museum includes over 100 real size exhibits that depict the glory of the bygone era.

The Museum promises to take the visitors on an exciting journey into the Railway history and heritage and depict their contribution to the industrial and economic progress of the country. The history comprises the milestones that the rail industry has achieved in the past which includes:

East Indian Railway rolled out the majestic Fairy Queen in the year 1855 The Fairy Queen was rolled again on Feb. 1st, 1997 from Delhi to Alwar. The oldest working engine in the world is the steam engine.
