Botanical Garden Ooty

Laid in 1848, this Botanical Garden is spread over 22 hectares and sits on the foothills of Doddabetta Peak, the highest peak of Nilgiri Hill Ranges. The garden is divided into sections: Lower Garden, New Garden, Italian Garden, The Conservatory, and The Nursery. It houses a thousand species of plants, shrubs, ferns, herbal, bonsai plants, and trees. In the center, a 20-million years old fossilized tree trunk is placed.

The garden’s boundless and expansive collection of flora makes it one of the best attractions of Ooty, which is often flocked by researchers and nature lovers. The best thing about this garden is its climate; it turns into a haven, especially during summers when the maximum temperature does not go beyond 28 degrees Celsius. Toda Mund is another reason to visit this place. It is amongst the highlights of the Botanical Garden and gives an insight into the Todas tribe of Ooty.

Every year, at least 1.5 lac tourists visit the garden during the Flower Show that spans two days. During the festival, Indian and Japanese flower arrangements, vegetable carving, flower rangoli, Bonsai, and floral decorations are majorly enjoyed by its attendees.
