It is later during 1590 that the present Jama Masjid was constructed in the hart of Burhanpur and ever since it has been one of the major historical and tourist attraction in Bhopal.

History of Jama Masjid

There is a history behind the Jama Masjid built in Burhanpur, Madhya Pradesh. During 1421, when most of the population of Burhanpur lived to the north, Azam Humayum built the Jama Masjid in Etwara called the Bibi Ki masjid. But soon with the growth of the city, ruler Adil Shah built the present Jama Masjid in the centre of the town, easily accessible to all the people living in Burhanpur. The construction of the Jama Masjid was started in 1590 and completed 5 years later.

A well conserved historical monument, the Jama Masjid in Burhanpur is located in the heart of the city. There are two big minarets that rise majestically across the Burhanpur skyline. The Jama Masjid also has three round cupolas. What is the most striking part of the Jama Masjid in Burhanpur is its interior that displays a splendid work of Islamic architecture. There are a series of arches built of alabaster that adds beauty to the Jama Masjid while the inner chambers of the mosque is made of sparkling white marble.
