Introduction to Kamadgiri

Kamadgiri is an important religious centre of the Hindus. This place is often referred to as the original Chitrakoot and that point to its historicity. The holiness of the place has been retained to this day.

History of Kamadgiri

The legendary hero and heroine Ram and Sita of the epic Ramayana spent 11 years of their exile in Chitrakoot. This is why there are several places that are associated with them. Kamadgiri is one of them. The Bharat Milap Temple is also located here. This is the spot where Bharat, the devoted brother of Ram met him to convince him to go back to Ayodhya and sit on the throne instead of being in exile.

Description of Kamadgiri

This forested hill is bordered with several temples. Ram is worshipped as the main deity in all these temples. Prayers are offered to him by the devotees who visit the place regularly. It is also popularly believed that if the pilgrims go around the hill (parikrama) they will receive the blessings of the lord and all their wishes will be fulfilled. Make sure that you visit the Shree Kamatanath Temple and the Bharat Milap Temple. If you walk further uphill, a temple can be seen on top of the hill dedicated to Lakshman, the brother of Ram. The hill has also been named after him.
