Introduction
Mumbai, previously known as Bombay, is renowned as the
financial capital of India. One of the busiest metros

Chowpatty Beach
Located at the northern end of Marine Drive, the Chowpatty
beach is virtually a daily carnival in the evening when

amusement. The giant wheels and merry-go-round attract
the children as well as adults, with an array of food
stalls selling Golas, Chat, Kulfi and Bhelpuri.
To witness the annual Ganesh Chaturthi Festival when
large images of Lord Ganesha are immersed in the sea,
Chowpatty beach is the place to be. Several important
meetings were organized here during the freedom struggle,
and the statues of Lokamanya Tilak and Vallabhai Patel
still bring nostalgic memories of the freedom struggle.
Recently, the Nana Nani Park has been opened along the
beach for elderly people.
Juhu Beach
One of the largest and frequently visited beaches in
India, Juhu beach is located on the shores of the Arabian
Sea, 20-25 km north of the city center. The carnival
atmosphere that prevails at the beach by night is attractive,
as Juhu comes alive with glittering lights. Hordes of
people arrive to stroll along the shore, paddle in the
sea, play beach cricket, and ride on giant wheels, merry-go-rounds,
horses, donkey's and camels with their children. Dancing
monkeys, acrobats, fortune-tellers and mobile vendors
calling attention to their wares make the beach vociferous.
The central part of the beach is lined with food stalls
selling Bhelpuri, Paanipuri, Pavbhaji, Kulfi, Ice candies
etc.
The Versova Beach, situated towards the northern end
of Juhu, which is home to Mumbai's largest Koli fishing
community or the Hare Krishna ISKCON complex nearby
are also worth a visit. The Juhu beach, frequently used
as shooting locale by filmmakers, has bungalows of famous
Hindi film celebrities at its southern end.
How to reach
To visit the beaches in Mumbai , you can come down to
Mumbai by air, by rail, or by road. Mumbai is an international
airport, and is also the busiest domestic air network
in the country. The international terminal is at Sahar,
which is 30 km north of the city center. The domestic
terminal at Santa Cruz is just 4 km away. The main railway
station is Victoria Terminal, now renamed Chattrapati
Shivaji Terminal. Other railway stations are Dadar,
Churchgate, and Kurla. Prepaid taxis are available from
the airports to the downtown.
