The Prithvi Theatre , a traveling theatre company was
established by the 1950s Bollywood screen icon Prithviraj
Kapoor in 1944. The first theatre company in the country
with a permanent crew, and a mission to do good with
the help of art, Prithvi Theatre set the trail for the
present day concept of theatre. After the demise of
Prithviraj Kapoor in 1972, his son Shashi Kapoor and
daughter-in-law Jennifer Kapoor established the Prithviraj
Kapoor Memorial Trust and bought a land in 1975. The
200 seat theatre as we see it today was inaugurated
on 5th November 1978. Bent on providing theatre artists
with a decent livelihood, the Prithvi Theatre is an
