Introduction

A haven for antique hunters, Chor Bazar is arguably
one of Mumbai's best shopping centers. Occupied by an

car parts to handmade furniture, the market offers you
items like good painting, jewelry, wooden articles,
statues, leather ware, general bric-a-brac, etc, for
purchase. There are a number of shops where you can
bargain. Open from Saturday to Thursday between 11am
and 7pm, the main avenue of the market is Mutton Street.
Crawford Market
Open from Monday to Saturday between 11:30am and 8pm,
the Crawford Market houses interesting varieties of
fresh fruits, vegetables, imported cheese, chocolates,
and a meat section, sold at wholesale rates. Also known
as Mahatma Jyothiba Phule Market, named after a local
patriot, this old Victorian building is located north
of the Victoria Terminus station. Built in 1869, the
market has a bas-relief just above the main entrance,
designed by Lockyard Kipling, father of Rudyard Kipling,
depicting workers in a wheat field. Across the street
there is a bazaar area called Lohar chawl that offers
an extensive range of goods.
Fashion Street
One of Mumbai's chief exports is readymade garments,
and the surplus lands up at Fashion Street, a huddle
of little shops on Mahatma Gandhi Road. There are at
least 130 to 140 shops, storing clothes that are of
good quality, trendy, and possibly the cheapest anywhere.
Besides clothing, there are also several shoe and jewelry
shops. You can bargain for any purchase you make.
How to reach
To shop in Mumbai , you can come down to Mumbai by air,
by rail, or by road. Mumbai is an international airport,
and is also the busiest domestic air network in the
country. The international terminal is at Sahar, which
is 30 km north of the city center. The domestic terminal
at Santa Cruz is just 4 km away. The main railway station
is Victoria Terminal, now renamed Chattrapati Shivaji
Terminal. Other railway stations are Dadar, Churchgate,
and Kurla. Prepaid taxis are available from the airports
to the downtown.
