Devi Kund

Devi Kund Bikaner India has always been a tourists' destination for her historical places rich with architecture. Spending holidays in India enjoying these royal places is a lifetime experience for anyone. One of the most famous tourist attractions in India is the Devi-kund, Rajasthan.

Devi-kund, the Royal crematorium, is a world class example of architectural marvels of Historical India. Devi-kund is the site of royal cenotaphs (called Chattri in the local language) of the Bikaji Rathores, the great rulers of the Bika dynasty. Reflecting the Rajputana architectural style, the Devi-kund chattris steal the hearts of tourists.

There are several chattris, one each for one Bika ruler constructed at the exact spot where he was cremated. The crematorium for royal adult men are white structures canopied with an upright stela engraved their name, portrait and. Those for royal wives are canopied structure covering a horizontal plaque with a pair of footprints often marked with the kind of henna patterns drawn on the feet for a wedding or festival. And those for children are small white cubes and not canopied.

Surely Devi-kund is one of the most marveling historical place and tourist spots in India.

Location and how to go Devi-kund :

Devi-kund is 8 kilometers east of Bikaner, North-West of Rajasthan.

Air :- Nearest Airport is Jodhpur 240 km.

Rail :- Bikaner is connected by rail with Delhi, Jaipur and Jodhpur.

Road :- Bikaner to Delhi 949 km and Jaipur 316 km.

From Bikaner, there are rickshaws, auto rickshaws, taxis to go to Devi-kund. But you will enjoy a camel ride most.

Must-see:
Maharaja Surat Singh's Chattri is the most spectacular structures that covered with colored frescoes and vibrant miniature paintings that delight travelers. Another must-see is a stela within a king's Chattri showing him on the left paying homage to Lord Vishnu (seated on a throne with his consort - note the conch shell in his upper right hand). Garuda, Lord Vishnu's vehicle, is kneeling beneath his left hand.

What makes Bikaner so special tourist destination is Bikaneri bhujia and Bikaner sweetmeats prepared with thick and delicious camel milk. A sip of camel milk tea is very refreshing. You can shop embroidered quilts, ghagras, camel leather goods and bright paintings.
