Kumbha Shyam Temple in Chittorgarh was built by Rana Kumbha and has been named after him. Rana Kumbha was a versatile King with a great taste for music and art. He was also an ardent follower of Hinduism and to that effect constructed many Hindu temples. This temple is dedicated to Varaha who is supposed to be an incarnation of Vishnu.
Description of Kumbha Shyam Temple, Chittorgarh:
The Kumbha Shyam Temple is built in the Indo Aryan style somewhat in the same mode as that of the Kali Mata ki temple in the same premises. However this is bigger in size than the Kali temple. Pyramidical roof and a lofty tower characterizes this temple. The architecture is simple but compact. The interior of the temple has sculptured walls with a pyramidical structure set in the middle which displays the images of gods and goddess with eight regents. The archway is decorated with intersection loops and designs. It has an inner sanctum as well.
