According to the historical facts the Jodhpur Umed Garden is named after the famous Maharaja Umed Singh. The development of this picturesque garden was initiated by him only. Umed Garden in Jodhpur is adjacent to the popular Umaid Palace which was envisioned by Umed Singhji after getting influenced by the western lifestyles. Hence it is held that to design and decorate this palace Maharaja Umed Singhji appointed the renowned Edwardian architect namely Henry Vaughan Lanchester.

Description of Umed Garden, Jodhpur
Umed Garden is counted among the most beautiful gardens in Jodhpur. Sprawling over an area of 82 acres, this garden has many things to attract the attention of the travelers and remove their boredom. To do away with the monotony, this garden houses a variety of attractions like verdant lawns, lofty Ashoka trees, roses and seasonal flowers, museum, fountains, library and zoo. Viceroy Willingdon did the inauguration of the zoo in this garden which at that sheltered lion, tiger, zebra, ostrich and an emu. Later monkeys, sea birds, pigeons, crocodiles, foxes, deer, lions and leopard were also brought.

Umed Garden in Jodhpur has five gates to allow public entry. The five gates are built in different directions and lead to different locations of the gardens. It is believed that this magnificent garden was built to educate kids and enchant people with nature's virgin beauty.
